Curatorial context
Espacio Fundación Telefónica presents 'Jennifer Steinkamp. Naturaleza digital,' an exhibition featuring five video installations by the pioneering American artist Jennifer Steinkamp. Steinkamp, known for her work with digital animation for three decades, focuses on themes of perception, movement, and space. The exhibition showcases her digital universe of fields of flowers and trees swaying in the wind, generated with 3D modeling programs. These living images reactivate our perception, dematerializing room walls and creating explorable environments that prompt reflection on diverse themes.
Steinkamp's art uses digital tools to create immersive sensory experiences. Her installations, such as 'Marie Curie,' inspired by the scientist's passion for botany, feature synchronized projections of over forty botanical species, reflecting on atomic energy's effects on nature. Other featured works include 'Dervish,' with high-definition projected trees swaying hypnotically, 'Bouquet,' presenting a dynamic forest of digital trees, 'Garlands,' a fabric of medicinal flowers, and 'Ovaries,' a representation of floating ovaries and ripe fruits. The exhibition also touches upon her public art projects like 'Botanic' in Times Square and 'Winter Fountains' in Philadelphia, highlighting her collaborations with musicians and her use of digital art in major events.
