Curatorial context

Joanie Lemercier's exhibition 'Paisajes de luz' (Lightscapes) marks the artist's first significant presentation in Spain, offering a journey through his creative vision. The exhibition comprises seven large-scale audiovisual installations that blend sophisticated digital programming with a deep, poetic engagement with nature. Lemercier, a pioneer in the artistic use of videomapping and co-founder of the collective AntiVJ, crafts experiences that manipulate projected light to alter visual perception and question our concept of reality. The exhibition is divided into two parts: the first part showcases digitally fabricated environments, featuring abstract lines and computer-generated mountains. The second part shifts focus to the pressing reality of human-caused environmental degradation, presenting immersive installations of algorithmic landscapes, including stark imagery of a large European coal mine captured through drone footage, urging a reflection on the urgency of environmental conservation.
