The exhibition 'Liam Young. Building Worlds' presents the striking video installations of Australian creator Liam Young, renowned for his captivating visions of imaginary worlds and their connection to technological advancements. Young's work delves into the profound impact of technology on daily life and the evolving nature of cities. His practice as a filmmaker and speculative architect has garnered international acclaim for its contributions to designing and visualizing future urban landscapes, prompting reflection on pressing global challenges such as climate change and the complexities of a highly connected, automated world. Young's video installations are born from in-depth research, blending design, future studies, and powerful audiovisual storytelling. Filmed using advanced digital techniques like laser scanners and autonomous drones, these pieces offer potent imagery that captivates viewers. The exhibition includes notable works such as 'In the Robot Skies,' 'Where the City Can’t See,' 'Planet City,' and 'New City' animations, alongside two new creations: 'The Great Endeavour,' a film about clearing the atmosphere of CO2, and 'Emissary,' a probe exploring other planets. These projections are displayed alongside models, photographs, and other materials used in their creation, presenting fictions that both reveal current threats and inspire mechanisms to address them. The exhibition is part of the Madrid Urban Digital Art Festival (MMMAD).
