The Dancer of the Future Exhibition: Exploring Modern Dance from Isadora Duncan to Josephine Baker

This exhibition explores the groundbreaking figures of modern dance, focusing on seven pioneering choreographers and dancers including Isadora Duncan and Josephine Baker. The Telefónica Foundation presents 'The Dancer of the Future. From Isadora Duncan to Josephine Baker,' an exhibition that delves into the revolutionary contributions of seven key figures in modern dance: Isadora Duncan, Loïe Fuller, Josephine Baker, Tórtola Valencia, Mary Wigman, Martha Graham, and Doris Humphrey. These women are celebrated for their belief in new forms of expression and their efforts to liberate the female body, defying societal norms and the traditional structures of Romantic ballet. Commissioned by María Santoyo and Miguel Ángel Delgado, the exhibition features curatorial advisement from Ibis Albizu and includes captivating audiovisual experiences with professional dancer Agnès López Río. The exhibition is structured into seven experiential spaces, each dedicated to one of the featured dancers. It begins with Isadora Duncan, the visionary pioneer who questioned classical ballet, drawing inspiration from nature and Greek art. The popular stage is explored through Loïe Fuller, who experimented with light and luminescence; Josephine Baker, the queen of the Charleston who broke sexual taboos; and Tórtola Valencia, known for her exotic Eastern styles. Expressionism is represented by Mary Wigman, who embraced a formless dance and the mask. Martha Graham's section focuses on her autonomous choreographic language based on contraction and expansion, communicating essential passions. Finally, Doris Humphrey's contribution is showcased through her emphasis on gravity and horizontal movement, reinterpreting the concept of the fall in dance.

The exhibition is open daily from Monday to Thursday, 10:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 11:00 to 20:00. Visitors can add the exhibition dates to their Google Calendar.
