Curatorial context
‘1, 2, 3… ¡Grabando!’ delves into the happy intersection of music and technology, highlighting the significant technical advancements in musical recording and reproduction since the mid-19th century. The exhibition embarks on a journey from the dawn of sound recording with instruments like Scott de Martinville's phonautograph and Thomas A. Edison's phonograph, to pivotal milestones such as the tape recorder, the compact cassette, and the MP3 player. Curated by Cristina Zúñiga, the exhibition is structured into three chronological areas: 'Orígenes' (1857-early 20th century), 'Revolución sonora' (1930s-1990s), and 'Suena en digital' (2000-present). It showcases patents, technical diagrams, photographs, audio recordings, posters, and audiovisual materials to illustrate how these technological leaps have profoundly impacted music creation, listening habits, and the music industry itself.
