Curatorial context

Launched in 2021, 'Bach (Re)inventions' is an audio recording that revisits Johann Sebastian Bach's didactic work, 'Inventions and Sinfonias' (BWV 772-786), composed nearly three centuries ago. Conceived originally to teach his son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach the principles of counterpoint and idiomatic instrumental writing, this collection of fifteen pieces is here reinvented by pianist Moisés P. Sánchez. Sánchez applies Bachian principles of improvisation to bring these works into a contemporary language while preserving their essential character. This project, commissioned by the Fundación Juan March, aims to recreate the original inventive spirit of Bach's pieces, stimulating musical imagination and captivating listeners with novel soundscapes. The recording features Moisés P. Sánchez on piano and arrangements, accompanied by Pablo M. Caminero on double bass and Pablo M. Jones on percussion, mbira, and effects. The publication is part of the 'MarchVivo' collection and is presented as a single audio disc with a duration of 53 minutes and 18 seconds.
