Exhibition summary
This exhibition examines the enduring influence of Hieronymus Bosch by presenting two panels from a follower of his work alongside contemporary surreal, metamorphic, and fantastic art. It explores the continuity of Bosch-like dream imagery and its relevance in the age of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
Curatorial context
Organized in collaboration with Solo Contemporary, _In the Style of Bosch_ presents a focused look at the profound and lasting impact of Hieronymus Bosch's unique vision. The exhibition features two small panels, _Heaven_ and _Hell_, painted by a follower of Bosch, which were originally part of a lost triptych dedicated to the theme of the _Last Judgement_. These historical pieces are placed in dialogue with contemporary works that share a surreal, metamorphic, and fantastic nature.
The exhibition highlights the concept that the continuity between contemporary artists and Bosch-like dream imagery is not an isolated phenomenon. Bosch's inventions, moral satires, delirious imagery, and dark humor established a living tradition after his death, proving his exceptional influence. It is noted that André Breton recognized Bosch's visual logic as a precursor to Surrealism. Today, Bosch's visions are seen to coexist with the possibilities offered by digital technology and artificial intelligence, which, much like his painting, generate fantastic worlds that stimulate imagination and critical thought.
