Curatorial context

The exhibition 'Los Blassi' delves into the parallel and intertwined careers of the Barcelona-born twins, Jordi and Jaume Blassi Alemany. Beginning their professional journeys in graphic design, advertising, and photography at a young age, their formative experiences were shaped by prominent agencies and influential figures in Barcelona's vibrant creative scene. This period of apprenticeship and early collaboration provided a strong foundation for their subsequent professional endeavors. A pivotal moment in their careers occurred when a suggestion to explore new landscapes led them to Cuenca in 1967. This visit, encouraged by Daniel Giralt-Miracle with the prospect of photographic documentation for 'Destino' magazine, brought them into contact with Fernando Zóbel, Gustavo Torner, and the emerging artistic community around the nascent Museo de Arte Abstracto Español. Their deep friendship with Zóbel proved to be a turning point, leading to a fruitful collaboration on various design and photographic projects for the museum. These included artist books, graphic portfolios, logos, posters, and postcards featuring the museum's collection, many of which are presented in this exhibition, illustrating a unique period and the early efforts to disseminate the museum's identity and artistic vision.
