Curatorial context

This live audio recording presents the concert given by Josu de Solaun in the auditorium of the Juan March Foundation in Madrid on March 30, 2019. The recital, part of the 'Music at Night' series, proposed a different interpretation of a central genre in piano literature: the nocturne. Moving beyond the canonical works inevitably associated with Frédéric Chopin, this recording situates itself on the margins of the repertoire, transporting the listener to a borderless night. Eight composers from five different nationalities (the United States, Italy, France, Romania, and Bulgaria) offer an alternative and luminous vision of the nocturne. In the words of the performer himself, 'this album of twilight thoughts and fluid music is an invitation to dreams: a journey to the confines of the night.' The recording features works performed by Josu de Solaun on the piano, including pieces by Samuel Barber, George Enescu, Gabriel Fauré, Charles T. Griffes, Fred Hersch, Giuseppe Martucci, Ottorino Respighi, and Pancho Vladigerov.
