En movimiento: Uncovering Royal Vehicles and Carriages from Patrimonio Nacional's Exceptional Collection

This exhibition showcases an exceptional and rarely seen collection of vehicles and carriages from Patrimonio Nacional. It explores the historical and cultural significance of royal travel, the technical and decorative development of specialized crafts, and the role of carriages in royal and noble imagery.

The exhibition "En movimiento. Vehículos y carruajes de Patrimonio Nacional" offers a unique opportunity to engage with an exceptional collection of vehicles that are largely unknown to the general public, as they are typically stored in warehouses or inaccessible locations. Patrimonio Nacional's Royal Collections hold seventy-six horse-drawn carriages, ten automobiles, and six sedan chairs, alongside a variety of other items related to historical journeys and processions of immense historical and cultural importance. For this project, seven carriages, five small vehicles, and two automobiles have been selected. The exhibition and its accompanying catalogue delve into diverse themes related to the monarchs' travels and the use of carriages within the court, highlighting their crucial role in constructing the image of the monarch and nobility. It also explains the technical and decorative evolution of highly specialized crafts that were immensely significant in the past. The aim is to present the world of carriages to a broad audience by displaying them alongside paintings, tapestries, trunks, uniforms, and other objects that provide visual or documentary information, thereby offering a clearer understanding of their use and historical context.
