Curatorial context

DE COROS, DANZAS Y DESMEMORIA. Art al Quadrat is a contemporary audiovisual art installation presented as part of the 'Visiones Críticas' program and the 150th-anniversary special program, also included in the Festival Ellas Crean. Organized by the National Museum of Anthropology in collaboration with the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, the work by Art al Quadrat (Gema and Mònica del Rey Jordá) emulates the Sección Femenina of FET y de las JONS. This historical organization created an idealized cultural and political vision of 'Spanish' folklore and popular traditions, linking it to the national-catholicism of the Franco era. The installation features representation from all autonomous communities, critically transforming the homogenization strategies employed by the Sección Femenina. It focuses on recovering the suppressed elements of folklore through the sung narratives of women actively engaged in reclaiming their memory.
