Curatorial context

The exhibition "Natalia Castañeda. RAÍCES Y FUTURO" (Roots and Future) by Colombian artist Natalia Castañeda is driven by a desire to unite art and science, focusing on what can be felt and represented through artistic expression, and what science reveals about the planet's current state. The exhibition unfolds as a synthesis of two fundamental disciplines for understanding origins and destinations: archaeology and ecology. Castañeda's work interrogates the forms of nature—water, earth, stones, mountains—and engages with them through a wide array of formats and resources, including drawings, paintings, videos, installations, objects, ceramics, and sculptures. This multimedia and polyphonic exhibition opens up the world to the viewer's gaze, guiding their sensitivity and mind to question contemporary ways of living in a world increasingly besieged by environmental crisis. This exhibition is the fifth in the "La expresión americana" program, co-organized by the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo and the National Museum of Anthropology (MNA). The MNA's presentation includes a participatory work designed by Castañeda, intended to make the show an interactive, dynamic, and transformative experience.
