Curatorial context

This exhibition, 'Reflejos. En torno al imaginario de Iván Zulueta,' showcases two contemporary installations by Marta Azparren and Esperanza Collado, which were part of a larger presentation abroad inspired by the avant-garde artist Iván Zulueta. Azparren's work, 'Arrebatador,' uses an LED screen as a mirror to transform viewers into a red monogram, echoing the famous red frame from Zulueta's film 'Arrebato' and prompting reflection on the current over-exploitation of images. Collado's 'Dissipation Essays' explores the dematerialization of cinema and performance through two projectors and a spinning mirror, dispersing images and light to evoke Zulueta's spatial concepts in his Super 8 films, creating an immersive and evocative experience. The exhibition is part of the special program for the 150th anniversary of the National Museum of Anthropology and the Critical Visions program. It is presented in collaboration with Filmoteca Española and is an adaptation of installations previously shown at the Kunstencentrum Nona in Mechelen, Belgium, as part of the Europalia festival, where Spain was the guest of honor.
