This display is linked to the upcoming online edition of the "Encuesta del Ateneo," a survey promoted in 1901-1902 concerning birth, marriage, and death customs throughout Spain. The museum holds nearly 18,000 handwritten responses to this survey. The exhibition uses a selection of objects to examine practices associated with birth, a crucial event in all human societies that signifies group continuity. It highlights cultural mechanisms that ensure acceptance into the community, practices aimed at promoting fertility and conception, and ritualistic formulas to counter the risks of pregnancy and childbirth.
