Curatorial context

This exhibition is the first to bring together such a significant group of paintings by Fernando Brambila (1763-1834), drawing attention to his skill as a painter specializing in perspectives, landscapes, and urban views. Brambila's career was largely focused on producing topographical views, often executing drawings and paintings that were subsequently reproduced as prints. His most important contribution is the series of views of the Royal Sites, created between 1821 and 1833 as a commission from Ferdinand VII. These works were intended for display in private rooms within the royal palaces and played a crucial role in shaping the collective memory of these sites. Through the dissemination of these views via the 'Collection of Views of the Royal Sites' published by the Real Establecimiento Litográfico, Brambila's depictions have become indelibly linked with the image of the Royal Sites. The exhibition aims to shed light on the enduring significance of his artistic output in documenting and popularizing these historical locations.
