The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando hosts the presentation of 'Goya a Luz del Norte,' a detailed research book co-authored by leading experts. The publication offers new insights into Francisco de Goya's work, particularly his connections to Asturias and Cantabria.
The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando is hosting the presentation of "Goya a Luz del Norte," a significant research publication. This book, a co-edition between MAS (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Santander and Cantabria), the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, and Comillas Inmobiliaria, delves into all aspects of Francisco de Goya's art related to Asturias and Cantabria. The research, conducted by experts Manuela Mena, Salvador Carretero, Alfonso Palacio, and Gudrun Maurer, offers novel contributions to Goya scholarship, presenting previously unpublished aspects and fundamental insights into key works from various international museums. The study specifically examines fourteen portraits by Goya of individuals from Asturias and Cantabria, as well as important updates on works belonging to different institutions, with a particular focus on five oil paintings housed within the Academy itself.
The presentation event features notable figures such as Víctor Nieto Alcaide, academic delegate of the Museum, Engraving, and Exhibitions; Gema Igual Ortiz, Mayoress of Santander; Gabino Busto Hevia, Chief Curator of the Collections of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias; and Salvador Carretero Rebés, former director of the MAS. The book's aim is to shed new light on the Aragonese master, who initiated modern art and foreshadowed later artistic movements, by exploring his ties to the northern regions of Spain.
