Didcot Railway Centre Celebrates Volunteer Recognition in Tourism Awards
A dedicated member of the Didcot Railway Centre community has received regional recognition for decades of service. Frank Dumbleton, one of the living museum's longest-serving contributors, has earned a spot on the shortlist for the Unsung Hero honor at the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence, managed by Tourism South East.
Celebrating Dedication at the Oxford Area Living Museum
Having maintained an active involvement with the Great Western Society since its inception in 1961, Dumbleton contributes over 100 days annually as the site's official photographer. His visual documentation spans the expansive 21-acre attraction, capturing operational highlights and promotional imagery. Leadership at the venue noted that his extensive photographic archive proved particularly valuable during recent digital marketing shifts, providing essential promotional assets for visitors.
Beyond behind-the-lens duties, Dumbleton frequently supports the destination as a museum steward and educational guide. Organizers of the regional competition evaluated submissions from approximately 100 businesses spanning Kent, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and the Oxford region, highlighting the resilience of regional tourism spots during challenging operational periods. Winners of the respective categories are scheduled to be revealed during an online ceremony hosted from Brighton's Grand Hotel.
