Exhibition summary

This educational program, "Safely on the Vistula," was designed for primary school children in Mazovia. It offered lessons on water safety, CPR basics, and emergency response, conducted by qualified rescuers. The program also included guided tours of the Museum of Sport and Tourism's permanent exhibition.

Curatorial context

The "Bezpiecznie nad Wisłą" (Safely on the Vistula) educational program was a collaborative initiative between the Museum of Sport and Tourism in Warsaw, the Warsaw River Police, and the Legionowo Water Volunteer Rescue Service. Targeted at primary school students from municipalities along the Vistula River in the Mazovia region, the program aimed to educate young people about the risks associated with being near water and how to prevent them. Qualified rescuers provided accessible instruction on personal and family safety during waterfront recreation, demonstrating basic resuscitation techniques and optimal actions in emergency situations. In addition to the safety lessons, participants engaged in guided tours of the Museum of Sport and Tourism's permanent exhibition, connecting water safety awareness with the history of sport and tourism. The program was offered from September 1 to November 30, 2022. It was divided into two parts: a 45-minute free safety lesson held in the education room, and a 45-minute guided tour of the permanent exhibition, which cost a symbolic PLN 1 per student as part of the "Cultural School in Mazovia" initiative. Schools were encouraged to bring two classes simultaneously, allowing for a staggered schedule where one group attended the safety lesson while the other toured the museum.

Admission and ticket notes

The safety lesson portion of the program is free. The guided tour of the permanent exhibition costs a symbolic PLN 1 per student, payable at the museum's ticket office as part of the "Cultural School in Mazovia" program. Reservations are required via telephone (22 56 03 786) from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for available time slots between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
