Dookoła na dwa koła: An Exhibition Exploring Polish Bicycle Tourism History

This temporary exhibition explores the history of bicycle tourism in Poland from the late 19th century to the present day. It features a unique collection of bicycles spanning 150 years, historical photographs, documents, maps, and personal accounts of long-distance cyclists.

The exhibition "Dookoła na dwa koła" (Around on Two Wheels) delves into the rich history of bicycle tourism in Poland, tracing its evolution from the late 19th century to contemporary times. Visitors can explore a remarkable collection of bicycles, showcasing advancements from the early days of the velocipede to modern high-performance bikes like the Kross Esker 6.0 from 2023. The exhibition also presents a wealth of historical materials, including unique photographs, documents, maps, and travel guides, offering a comprehensive look at the development of cycling culture and adventure. Highlighting the journeys of notable long-distance cyclists such as Karolina Kocięcka, Feliks Stanisław Gołębiowski, Rudolf Wacek, Kazimierz Nowak, Maciej Kaszubski, and Wojciech Szyller, the exhibition aims to inspire visitors. It also features information on the "Green Velo" Eastern Cycle Route, spanning nearly 2000 km, encouraging active engagement. The exhibition draws upon collections from the Museum of Sport and Tourism, as well as archives from WTC, NAC, the National Library, PTTK, and private collections. Interactive elements, such as a symbolic border crossing with a stamp, and a final demonstration featuring a vintage bicycle, enhance the visitor experience. The exhibition was prepared by dr hab. Robert Gawkowski and curator Piotr Banasiak, with a design by Włodzimierz Wasilewski and graphics by Andrzej Choma.
