The Museum of Sport and Tourism organized this exhibition to mark the tenth anniversary of the passing of Maria Kwaśniewska-Maleszewska, who died on October 17, 2007. Kwaśniewska-Maleszewska was a prominent figure in Polish athletics in the 1930s, notably winning a bronze medal at the XI Olympic Games in Berlin (1936) in javelin throw. Her athletic career also included numerous Polish championship titles and representation in volleyball and basketball, as well as national handball championships. Beyond sports, she participated in the defense of Warsaw in 1939 and the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Post-war, she was actively involved with the Polish Olympic Committee and the Polish Athletics Federation. She was also a friend and benefactor of the Museum of Sport and Tourism, collaborating with it for many years. Her passing in 2007 marked the end of an era, as she was the last of the 41 pre-war Polish Olympic medalists.
