Curatorial context

In October 2014, the TG "Sokół" in Racibórz celebrated its centenary, which was marked by a two-day event from October 17-18. A key part of these celebrations was the opening of an exhibition titled "Nad nami dawnych bojów znak, w szkarłatnym polu srebrny ptak" (Under us the banner of old battles, in a crimson field a silver bird), which presented historical "Sokół" banners. The exhibition was hosted at the Piast Castle in Racibórz and was a collaborative effort between the Museum of Sport and Tourism in Warsaw and the Piast Castle, with the support of TG "Sokół" in Racibórz. The exhibition featured 15 banners created before 1939. Eleven of these objects came from the Museum of Sport and Tourism's own collection, while others were loaned from the Sport and Tourism Department of the Museum of the City of Łódź (2), the Museum of Independence in Warsaw (1), and the Kazimierz Pułaski Museum in Warka (1). Complementing the "Sokół" banners were "Sokół" uniforms, as well as tokens, badges, and medals. A special issue of "Przegląd Sokoli" (nr 28), entirely dedicated to banners, was published for the exhibition, and the Piast Castle also released a folder for the event. The exhibition was open until the end of the year.
