Wartime Reality Through the Eyes of Alevtina Kakhidze: A Powerful Drawings Exhibition in Warsaw

This exhibition showcases the drawings of Ukrainian artist Alevtina Kakhidze, who has been documenting the realities of war near Kyiv since the conflict began. Wojenna rzeczywistość oczami Alevtiny Kakhidze (Wartime Reality Through the Eyes of Alevtina Kakhidze) presents a powerful display of drawings by the prominent Ukrainian artist Alevtina Kakhidze. Since the outbreak of the war, Kakhidze has maintained a daily drawing journal from her home near Kyiv, offering a raw, engaged, and often critical commentary on the unfolding events. The exhibition at the Museum of Warsaw highlights these works, which serve as a contemporary echo to the personal accounts recorded by Warsaw's residents during the September 1939 siege. The artist, who has chosen to remain in Muzychi with her family and studio, uses her simple, deliberately naive drawings, often shared on social media, as a means of communication. These entries, whether viewed on screens or displayed in the exhibition, are intentionally presented in the same format as they are released by the artist, maintaining their direct and radical impact. Kakhidze's artistic practice is rooted in engagement, reminiscent of her involvement in the Orange Revolution, and her current work continues this tradition of potent social and political commentary.
