The Royal Łazienki Museum is currently showcasing 'Sfera con sfera', a significant monumental sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro, one of the most important contemporary artists. The piece, made of fiberglass, is installed in the Modernist Garden near the New Orangery. Pomodoro is celebrated for his innovative approach to sculpture, particularly his exploration of geometric solids and his distinctive "writing" style that emerged in the 1950s. His 'sphere' theme, which began with a commission for Expo in Montreal, has resulted in numerous iconic installations worldwide in prominent public spaces.
'Sfera con sfera' itself is interpreted as a reflection on the dualities of the modern world, presenting imagery that can be seen as both organic and technological due to its complex interior forms resembling gear teeth. A sphere containing another sphere, burgeoning from within, is seen as a metaphor for hope and rebirth in a less troubled world. Pomodoro himself described the sphere as a magical object, a symbol of the mother's womb, reflecting its surroundings and creating contrasts, and that his purpose was to break these perfect forms to reveal their inner contradictions and the real within.
