Discovered Images: Photo Aesthetics of Count Tyszkiewicz at Royal Łazienki Museum

This exhibition showcases nearly 200 original prints by Benedict Henryk Tyszkiewicz, a 19th-century Polish-Lithuanian aristocrat and photographer. The works, considered lost for years and originating from Lithuanian collections, explore Tyszkiewicz's artistic and ethnographic interests, offering a glimpse into the life and culture of his time.

The exhibition 'Discovered Images. Photo Aesthetics of Count Benedykt Henryk Tyszkiewicz (1852–1935)' presents a significant collection of nearly 200 original photographic prints created between 1892 and 1898. These works, which were once thought lost, have resurfaced from Lithuanian collections and offer a profound insight into the artistic vision and life of Benedict Henryk Tyszkiewicz, a Polish-Lithuanian aristocrat with a passion for photography. The prints capture diverse aspects of his life, including hunting scenes, travels to places like Zakopane and Nice, ethnographic studies of peasants and highlanders, and staged pictorialist photographs featuring French actresses. Developed in collaboration with the Museum of Photography in Šiauliai, this exhibition highlights Tyszkiewicz's exploration of photography's boundaries through the interplay of reality and staged narrative. His oeuvre serves not only as a testament to his artistic and scientific ambitions and his deep ties to Poland and Lithuania but also as a vital document of the cultural vitality of the Polish-Lithuanian community, whose shared heritage continues to connect the two nations.

Tickets are available at the Kubicki Stables ticket office. Admission is PLN 16 for a normal ticket, PLN 8 for a reduced ticket, and PLN 1 for children aged up to 7 and youth up to 26. Admission is free on Fridays. Note that entry may be tied to a ticket for the Museum of Hunting and Horsemanship.
