Curatorial context

This series of French language workshops, titled 'En français sur les jardins,' is designed for adults at a B2 proficiency level and focuses on the theme of gardens. Led by Sandrine Jacques, a native French speaker and founder of the 'L'atelier de français' school, the workshops encourage participants to discuss gardens in French, covering their history, artistic depictions, and the emotions they evoke. The sessions begin with an exploration of the temporary exhibition 'Życie królewskiego ogrodu' in Podchorążówka, delving into the historical plants of the Łazienki gardens, the work of gardeners, and their tools. Participants will also examine fauna and flora motifs on historical attire, accessories, and tableware. The first workshop on July 13th, 'Voyage à travers les styles de jardins,' will journey through four main garden styles: French geometric, English romantic, Japanese mineral, and Islamic sensory, with a historical overview of the Łazienki gardens. The second workshop on August 31st, 'Le jardin dans la littérature et le cinéma,' will focus on the representation and interpretation of gardens in art, literature, and cinema. Discussions will include garden types found in books, poems, and films, their attributed meanings, and an introduction to poetic vocabulary related to gardens, potentially including haiku creation through quizzes and surveys.
