Jutrzenka: A 1919 Marble Sculpture by Zofia Trzcińska-Kamińska at Royal Łazienki Museum

Jutrzenka, also known as 'Poganka' or Aurora/Eos, is a white marble sculpture by Polish artist Zofia Trzcińska-Kamińska. Created in 1919, it depicts the goddess of dawn as a young, nude woman awaiting the morning light, symbolizing the dawn and twilight.

The sculpture 'Jutrzenka,' alternatively known as 'Poganka' by its creator Zofia Trzcińska-Kamińska, is a notable work in white marble. It represents the personification of Jutrzenka, the goddess of polar auroras and dawn, also identified with Aurora or Eos. The figure is depicted as a young, nude woman intently watching for the morning's first light. In mythology, this 'rosy-fingered' goddess was responsible for opening the celestial gates before the sun's chariot. Her artistic representation typically features a delicate and subtle beauty. Originally created in 1919, the statue was installed in the southern part of the Łazienki Park in the 1930s. The sculpture aligns with the symbolic program of the Royal Łazienki Park, echoing themes present in other artworks within the collection, such as Stanisław August's comparison of himself to Apollo, the sun god, on the ceiling of the Royal Theatre in the Old Orangery.
