Curatorial context

The "Lektury w muzeum" (Readings in the Museum) program offers a series of four intensive, two-day seminars designed for adults, including educators and students, who wish to explore the world of dramatic literature and theatre history. Led by Professor Jagoda Hernik Spalińska, the series focuses on playwrights whose works are foundational to school curricula and whose likenesses are featured on the ceiling of the Royal Theatre in the Old Orangery. The seminars provide a historical and social context for the creation of dramatic works, tracing their evolution from V century BC Greek tragedies and comedies to the European theatre renaissance of the 16th and 17th centuries, with particular attention to England and France. Each session involves a deep dive into specific authors and plays, employing dramaturgical analysis to understand genre specifics and their potential for stage realization. The program begins in February and concludes in October 2018, with participants meeting at the terrace of the Palace on the Isle before moving to various locations within the Royal Łazienki Museum complex. The cost is 10 PLN per two-day seminar, and registration is required.
