Experience Masterpieces for the King? Rubens, Van Dyck at Royal Łazienki Museum

This exhibition showcases five masterpieces of 17th- and 18th-century European painting from the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London. The featured works include pieces by Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, and David Teniers the Younger, presented in Poland for the first time.

The Royal Łazienki Museum presents "Masterpieces for the King? Rubens, van Dyck, Teniers the Younger from the collection of Dulwich Picture Gallery", an exhibition featuring five significant works of 17th- and 18th-century European painting. These outstanding paintings, previously unseen in Poland, are on loan from the renowned Dulwich Picture Gallery in London. The exhibition highlights pieces by prominent artists such as Peter Paul Rubens ('Portrait of a Lady'), Anthony van Dyck ('Madonna and Child'), David Teniers the Younger ('Talking Peasants Against a Landscape with a Church'), Adriaen van der Werff ('The Judgement of Paris'), and Salvatore Rosa ('Soldiers Playing Dice'). These works were acquired by Noel Desenfans, a London art dealer, with the intention of adding them to the collection of King Stanisław August of Poland, offering a glimpse into the artistic tastes and royal aspirations of the era. Each painting is accompanied by detailed information, delving into the artist's biography, the context of the artwork's creation, and its provenance. The descriptions provide insights into the techniques, styles, and historical significance of pieces by Baroque masters like Rubens and van Dyck, as well as genre scenes by Teniers and classical compositions by van der Werff. The exhibition not only celebrates the artistic achievements of these European masters but also explores the historical connections between Polish royalty and significant art collections, making it a unique cultural event for art enthusiasts.
