Curatorial context

The 'Perípatos. Filozofia i kryzys' (Peripatos. Philosophy and Crisis) workshops delve into the nature of philosophical thought as a response to societal lacks, fears, and deficiencies. The program posits that crisis stimulates philosophical inquiry, and explores how past philosophers grappled with such challenges. Participants will examine twelve distinct cultural crises and the philosophical frameworks developed to address them, as well as contemporary issues facing philosophy today. Each monthly session, held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM, focuses on a specific topic. These include the crisis of myth as the beginning of philosophy, the crisis of democracy across centuries, the crisis of the ancient ethos and Christianity, the modern 'disenchantment of the world' as a crisis of metaphysical certainty, and the crisis related to the discovery of history in the 19th century. Later sessions cover colonialism and the crisis of Western identity, globalization and the crisis of capitalism, the crisis of science arising from its development and specialization, the avant-garde and the crisis of art, the end of metaphysics as a crisis of philosophy, the crisis of communication in the age of new media, and finally, the Holocaust as a crisis of humanity. The workshops are led by Dr. Marcin Rychter and Dr. Karolina Rychter.
