Curatorial context

The exhibition 'Redesign of Polish Folk Furniture. Tradition Reimagined' showcases the results of a research project conducted at the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw between 2023 and 2025. The project sought to define a contemporary design language by analyzing historical furniture documented in museums and open-air heritage parks across central and eastern Poland. The resulting collection emphasizes traditional values such as simplicity of form, functionality, and the use of natural wood, while integrating modern woodworking technologies and current design aesthetics. The display invites visitors to follow the entire creative journey, from initial sketches and research to the final 1:1 scale furniture pieces. By examining how traditional forms can inspire new interior design solutions, the exhibition frames Polish folk heritage as a timeless resource rather than a static museum relic. This project, designed and curated by Dr. Tomasz Gałązka, has been recognized for its innovation and quality, having previously received honors at the Furniture Warsaw Home 2025 international trade fair.

Admission and ticket notes

Admission to the exhibition is free. It is open to the public from Friday to Sunday, between 12:00 and 18:00, at the Hermitage building located on Myśliwiecka 1 Street within the museum grounds.
