Exhibition summary

This is a series of free online culinary workshops for youth and adults, focusing on 18th-century recipes by Paul Tremo, the chef to King Stanisław August. Participants will explore historical dishes and the culinary culture of the Stanisławian era, preparing light, seasonal meals.

Curatorial context

The 'Royal Cuisine by Paula Tremo' workshops delve into the original recipes from the 18th century, offering a practical exploration of what King Stanisław August ate. These events are part of the 'Posmakuj Warszawy' project, a joint initiative by the Culture Without Barriers Foundation and various Warsaw museums and cultural institutions. The workshops are designed for individuals aged 16 and above who are interested in practicing the cuisine of past eras. Each session will test selected dishes from "Kitchen for six people according to the recipes of JP. Tremon, first chef to Stanisław August, King of Poland." Participants will learn about the new dishes and inspirations that Paul Tremo introduced to Polish cuisine and how the monarch's menu changed under his influence. The workshops will foster a deeper understanding of the culinary habits during the era of the famous 'Thursday Dinners'. These interdisciplinary sessions aim to encourage further study of Enlightenment-era cuisine, with a menu dominated by light, seasonal dishes that contrasted with the heavy, Baroque fare common at the time.
