Curatorial context
This series of guided walks delves into the historical significance of the November Uprising within the Royal Łazienki Park, commemorating its 195th anniversary. The program features two distinct tours: "Noc listopadowa" (November Night) and "Łazienki w roku 1830" (Łazienki in 1830). The "Noc listopadowa" walk, held in the morning, will reflect on the causes, consequences, and meaning of the 1830 uprising, referencing historical facts, Stanisław Wyspiański's play "Noc listopadowa" set in the royal residence, and the works of Jan Lechonia. It will explore interpretations of the November events by national bards and historians, using locations like Podchorążówka, the monuments of Piotr Wysocki, Jan III Sobieski, and Stanisław Wyspiański, as well as the area around the Palace on the Isle, the Amphitheatre, Al. Ujazdowskie, Belweder, and Agrykola street as its backdrop. The "Łazienki w roku 1830" walk, held in the afternoon, will focus on the beginnings of the uprising in the Łazienki Park, which was then owned by the Romanov dynasty, with Grand Duke Constantine residing in the nearby Belweder. Participants will learn about the background of the independence struggle and its key figures, gaining insight into what Łazienki Park and its surroundings were like in 1830, an area that later inspired artists and writers referencing the uprising.
These walks are led by experienced educators. Ludmiła Waślicka, an educator at the Royal Łazienki Museum, leads the "Noc listopadowa" walk, with a background in history and special education. Nikodem Węgier, a city and museum guide, leads the "Łazienki w roku 1830" walk, known for organizing thematic tours of Warsaw and popularizing history and local knowledge.
