The artwork, 'Still life with a goblet, plums, grapes, hazelnut and crab,' is an oil on wood painting by G. van Deynum, dated approximately to 1654. Its dimensions are 32.7 x 23.8 cm. This piece is one of a pair of still lifes whose author was noted as 'Wan Dynum' in the catalogues of Stanisław August's gallery. Little is known about van Deynum's life and work, though he likely came from a Flemish family of painters in Antwerp. Around ten signed works are attributed to him, primarily in private collections. Van Deynum's still lifes were sometimes falsely signed with the name of Jan Davidsz. de Heem, a highly regarded still life painter active in Antwerp. Van Deynum frequently copied elements from de Heem's works, particularly from the 1640s and 1650s. The Łazienki painting repeats the left portion of de Heem's 'Still life with fruits and herring,' from around 1654, but with the addition of a goblet not present in the original composition. This composition by de Heem was popular and copied by various artists. However, van Deynum's execution is noted as lacking the precision of drawing, mastery of texture, and nuanced color found in de Heem's works.
