Curatorial context

The Royal Łazienki Museum presents "The Art of Good Thinking. The Legacy of Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski," the first exhibition dedicated to this influential writer and politician. Running from April 26 to September 1, 2024, the exhibition delves into the multifaceted life of one of the most colorful figures of Polish Baroque. Visitors can explore a rich collection of exhibits, including significant paintings, intriguing drawings, rare old prints, unique vessels, and items recovered from crypts, all sourced from domestic and international collections. The exhibition is spread across two locations: the Palace on the Isle, which explores the history of the Marshal's Baroque Bath, and Podchorążówka, which details Lubomirski's biography, literary works, patronage, and political activities. Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski, a man of broad interests and a significant biographical narrative, played a crucial role in Polish history. His accomplishments spanned international and domestic politics, military affairs (funding a hussar squadron for the Battle of Vienna), literature, and philosophy. He is recognized as a patron of numerous buildings and an example of successful integration of political engagement with literary pursuits, earning him the moniker "Polish Solomon." The exhibition showcases exceptional artifacts loaned from 15 Polish and five foreign institutions, many presented in Poland for the first time, including works by Rembrandt and designs for Baroque buildings. A multimedia presentation enhances the display, offering a journey into the world of Polish Baroque and the history of Łazienki.
