Curatorial context
The Royal Łazienki Museum presents "The Art of Thinking Well. The Legacy of Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski," the first exhibition dedicated to this eminent writer and politician, a colorful representative of the Polish Baroque. Running from April 26 to September 1, 2024, the exhibition marks the 350th anniversary of Lubomirski's acquisition of the Ujazdów estate, the historical foundation of the Royal Łazienki. Lubomirski was a significant figure in international and domestic politics, a patron of literature and architecture, and even a military leader, earning him the nickname "Polish Salomon."
The exhibition is thoughtfully divided into two parts. At the Palace on the Isle, visitors can explore the history of the Marshal's Baroque Bathhouse, a precursor to the current residence. The Officer Cadets School serves as the core of the exhibition, delving into the various aspects of Lubomirski's biography: his family history, literary works, patronage, and political endeavors. The presentation includes exceptional artifacts loaned from 15 Polish and five foreign institutions, many shown in Poland for the first time, such as exquisite paintings by Rembrandt, intricate drawings, unique vessels, and objects from the crypt. A multimedia show complements the displays, offering a comprehensive journey into the world of the Polish Baroque and the history of the Royal Łazienki.
