Curatorial context

The Myślewicki Palace, an early classicist monument, was erected in the closing of the road from the town at the end of the 18th century. Designed by Domenico Merlini, its distinctive semi-circular shape was gradually developed, with the addition of quarter-circle wings in 1777, which were later expanded. The palace has largely retained its original state and décor from the times of King Stanisław August, making it a significant example of early classicist architecture. Its façade is characterized by a tall niche with the main entrance flanked by statues of Flora and Zephyr by Giacomo Monaldi, symbolizing nature and love. The palace has been home to various residents, including members of the royal court, military officers, and political figures throughout its history. Renovations in 2015 restored its historic polychromes and gilding, returning it to its authentic 18th-century character.
