The Nabis: Prophets of a New Art Exhibition at Royal Łazienki Museum, Warsaw

This temporary exhibition at the Royal Łazienki Museum features nearly a hundred works by the Nabis, an influential art group from France active between 1888 and 1899. The collection includes paintings, drawings, and prints by masters such as Maurice Denis, Paul Ranson, and Paul Sérusier, with works originating from Polish and renowned foreign collections, including the Musée d'Orsay.

The Royal Łazienki Museum presents 'The Nabis. Prophets of a New Art,' a significant temporary exhibition dedicated to the art movement that profoundly influenced modern art. Operating in France between 1888 and 1899, the Nabis group rejected academic painting principles in favor of deep color, clear contours, and a decorative style. Though active for a short period, their impact resonated with many later artists, including the Cubists. The exhibition highlights the fundamental role of Nabis artists such as Paul Sérusier, Pierre Bonnard, Paul Ranson, Maurice Denis, Xavier Roussel, Georges Lacombe, Édouard Vuillard, and Félix Vallotton. Despite their considerable influence on late 19th and early 20th-century art, they remain less known to the wider public. This exhibition marks the first major presentation of the Nabis in Poland, a movement that also inspired Polish artists studying in Paris. Featuring over 90 works, including paintings, drawings, and prints, the exhibition delves into the movement's origins, the influence of Paul Gauguin and the Pont-Aven School, and their engagement with religious, esoteric themes, interiors, and genre scenes, as well as their connection to 'La Revue Blanche' magazine. The collection comprises works from eleven foreign public institutions and eleven private collections, many of which have never been shown in Poland before, including iconic pieces like Maurice Denis's 'Spots of Sunlight on the Terrace' from the Musée d’Orsay. The exhibition also showcases works by Polish artists influenced by the Nabis, such as Władysław Ślewiński, Mela Muter, and Stanisław Wyspiański, underscoring the cultural links between France and Poland. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ewa Bobrowska and Jean-René Saillard.

Admission is PLN 30 for a standard ticket, PLN 15 for a reduced ticket, and PLN 20 for adults with a Large Family Card. Admission is free for members of the Friends of the Royal Łazienki Museum and for all visitors on Fridays. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office, ticket machine, or online.
