This workshop invites adults to learn the secrets of beekeeping in forest tree hollows, explore bee products, and try their hand at traditional hive construction. Led by an experienced beekeeper, the session connects historical beekeeping practices with the natural rhythms of the seasons and the rich history of beekeeping within Łazienki Królewskie.
Join us for a hands-on workshop dedicated to the art of traditional beekeeping, or 'bartnictwo'. This session will delve into the fascinating world of raising bees in forest tree hollows, mirroring their natural lifecycle and the seasonal rhythm. Participants will have the opportunity to examine unique bee products such as pollen, bee bread, propolis, and wax, and learn about the specialized tools used by beekeepers, including the 'piesznia', 'cieślica', 'leziwo', and 'leżaj'. The workshop will also explore the historical context of beekeeping within Łazienki Królewskie, referencing 18th-century depictions of traditional domed hives found in the White House.
Led by Janusz Marzewski, a dedicated beekeeper and custodian of beekeeping culture, this workshop aims to revive and popularize these ancient practices. Participants will gain insight into the work of a beekeeper and the ecological and human benefits of traditional methods. A practical session will allow attendees to try their hand at 'dzianie barci' (hive construction). This workshop is specially adapted for individuals on the autism spectrum, with additional assistance provided.
