Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam Unveils 'Destination Cosmos' Immersive Experience
Amsterdam’s Fabrique des Lumières is set to transport visitors on an extraordinary journey through space with its latest exhibition, "Destination Cosmos." Following successful runs in New York and Paris, this immersive digital art experience opens its doors on October 14, inviting audiences to explore a universe of stars, planets, nebulae, and supernovae.
A Stellar Journey Through the Universe
"Destination Cosmos" is an 'Immersive Space Experience' created in collaboration with prestigious international space agencies, including NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), alongside France's CNES. The exhibition features breathtaking images, some captured by the advanced James Webb Space Telescope, promising a visually stunning exploration of the cosmos.
This unique presentation has been specially adapted for the 17-meter-high exhibition space within the Zuiveringshal of the Westergasfabriek. The Amsterdam version includes new imagery from ESA, enhancing the experience further. Patrick Alders, founder and general director of Fabrique des Lumières, highlights the accessibility of the exhibition, stating, "You don't have to be a billionaire to feel like an astronaut and discover the cosmos. Thanks to the impressive images from international space agencies, this adventure is now accessible to everyone from Earth."
An Experience Focused on Wonder
The core philosophy behind "Destination Cosmos" and other Fabrique des Lumières exhibitions is "experience over knowledge." The goal is to evoke wonder and immerse visitors in a sensory journey rather than requiring extensive scientific understanding. This 40-minute space odyssey takes participants on a voyage past the craters of Mars, through the heart of Jupiter, and gliding alongside Saturn, venturing ever deeper into the universe. The cosmic visuals are accompanied by a diverse soundtrack featuring music from classical composers like Wagner and contemporary artists such as David Bowie, enriching the immersive atmosphere.
