Fabrique des Lumières Amsterdam Launches 'The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks'
Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam is set to introduce its inaugural 360-degree storytelling experience, "The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks." This unique immersive documentary-style production, developed in collaboration with London's Studio Lightroom and co-created by Tom Hanks and BAFTA-nominated writer Christopher Riley, opens its doors on December 12, 2025. It promises visitors a deep dive into the history and future of lunar exploration.
An Immersive Voyage Through Space History
Distinguishing itself from previous exhibitions at Fabrique des Lumières, "The Moonwalkers" adopts a compelling narrative format. The 50-minute immersive journey guides visitors through four main themes: the historic Apollo 11 launch in 1969, subsequent moon landings, lunar rover expeditions, and the eventual return to Earth. The experience combines original NASA archival footage with thousands of digitally restored images from the Apollo missions by expert Andy Saunders, presenting an unprecedented level of detail through large-scale 360-degree projections on walls and floors.
The cinematic atmosphere is further enhanced by an original orchestral soundtrack. Composed by Emmy-nominated Anne Nikitin, the score was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, adding an emotional layer to the visual spectacle.
Tom Hanks' Personal Insight and Narration
Tom Hanks, known for his lifelong passion for space exploration and his role as astronaut Captain Jim Lovell in "Apollo 13," played a key role in developing and narrating "The Moonwalkers." His voice guides visitors through each chapter, providing context and sharing lesser-known stories that enrich the experience. Attendees can gain insight into what it felt like to be in mission control, travel through space, and walk on the moon.
