Freek Vonk's Wax Figure Joins Madame Tussauds Amsterdam Collection
Biologist and television presenter Freek Vonk officially unveiled his lifelike wax figure at Madame Tussauds Amsterdam on October 4, 2024. Expressing great delight, Vonk shared his excitement on Instagram, noting that having his own figure was "never something he dared to dream of."
The renowned presenter, known for his show Freeks wilde wereld (Freek's Wild World), was reportedly impressed by the meticulous detail of the figure. He observed that all his scars had been perfectly recreated. Adding to the authenticity, the wax figure is accompanied by a replica of his monitor lizard, Johan, which also received Vonk's approval for its realistic gaze, posture, skin folds, and sharp claws.
A Message of Inspiration for Visitors
Beyond the remarkable likeness, Freek Vonk hopes his figure will serve a greater purpose. He expressed a wish for the display to motivate people to learn more about nature and embark on their own adventures. He also aims for it to inspire "all peculiar kindred spirits," especially children who might feel like outsiders. Vonk, 41, emphasized that he, too, was an outsider thirty years ago and encouraged embracing one's unique qualities. "Be proud of yourself and who you are," he stated, reinforcing a message of self-acceptance and individuality.
