Curatorial context

Foam proudly presents 'Blessings from Mousganistan,' an exhibition by self-taught Moroccan photographer Mous Lamrabat. Central to Lamrabat’s work are themes of beauty and hope, presented through an exhilarating and at times confronting fusion of his diasporic life. He uses beauty and humor to create powerful new narratives related to sensitive issues such as racism, religion, and women’s rights. In 'Blessings from Mousganistan,' the artist shares a message of love through a colorful and eclectic visual experience, inviting visitors into a fascinating utopia created within the museum walls. Lamrabat asks and sometimes pushes the viewer to look differently at the images by superimposing his photographs in large lenticular prints or vacuum-pulled portraits, often incorporating familiar corporate symbols like the Nike logo and the McDonalds “M.” By changing the shapes of well-known symbols and images, Lamrabat deconstructs the notion of 'normal.'
