Ece Gökalp's exhibition in Foam 3h, titled 'After Anahit,' delves into significant events in Northeast Turkey, examining conflicts surrounding cultural heritage, ecological devastation, and the impact of historical geography. The project utilizes in-depth research, photography, and archival material to explore these complex themes.
Ece Gökalp's exhibition at Foam 3h, 'After Anahit,' centers on two major events that occurred in Northeast Turkey, offering a critical examination of conflicts tied to cultural heritage, ecological devastation, and the shifting landscapes shaped by historical occurrences. Gökalp employs extensive research, photography, and archival materials to illuminate these complex issues. Her broader artistic practice is deeply interested in the theory of photography, particularly the photographic gaze, its indexicality in various contexts, and its power to shape perceptions of place. Gökalp, a visual artist from Istanbul, has a background in photography and video studies, complemented by studies in Graphic Design and Art in Context. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions and several solo shows since 2017.
This exhibition is part of 'Kısmet,' a multi-year project initiated by artist Ahmet Polat in collaboration with Foam, which explores the rich and complex perspectives of Turkish visual culture through the lens of different generations of image makers. 'After Anahit' is supported by the Van Bijlevelt Foundation, the Leeuwensteinstichting, and Kleurg Vũlgamma Fine-Art Photolab.
