Fidelio Faustino's new analogue work, titled 'Tapsei', delves into themes of memory, spirituality, and imagination, deeply rooted in the Afro-Caribbean experience. The exhibition, presented by Foam in collaboration with sQuare and the Amsterdam Ferry Festival, is a public space intervention situated on the GVB ferry. 'Tapsei' itself is a word from Sranantongo meaning 'upwards', which in the context of Suriname’s interior also refers to a way of orienting oneself and navigating through landscape, memory, and community, as well as the interior itself. Faustino's practice aims to contribute to the representation of Black and Indigenous communities from a perspective grounded in lived experience, exploring feelings of nostalgia and belonging. This project reflects a shared commitment to nurturing talent by supporting makers who forge their own professional paths. The exhibition serves as a contemporary response to the historical exhibition 'Yere Mi Sten' by Augusta Curiel.
