This exhibition showcases 'Cambio de luces' (Change of Lights), a collection of Spanish illustrations from the 1970s that brought modernity to the field. It highlights the work of eleven artists who revolutionized Spanish drawing with their unique styles and techniques, influenced by the pop art movement of the era.
The exhibition 'Cambio de luces. Ilustración española de los setenta' (Change of Lights. Spanish Illustration of the Seventies) was conceived at the Museo ABC and later presented at the Museo Patio Herreriano. It offers a comprehensive look at Spanish illustration during the 1970s, a period characterized by a return to modernity and the introduction of new languages and aesthetics in drawing. The show features 114 works by eleven significant artists: José Ramón Sánchez, Fina Rifá, Pilarín Bayés, Asun Balzola, Manuel Boix, Miguel Calatayud, Luis de Horna, Miguel Ángel Pacheco, Karin Schubert, Carme Solé Vendrell, and Ulises Wensell. These artists, while not forming a homogeneous group, each contributed their personal style to revolutionize Spanish illustration. Their work often incorporated influences from the dominant pop art movement of the time and reflected a commitment to social and political engagement during Spain's turbulent transition period, particularly in relation to new educational models. The exhibition celebrates their technical skill and professional dedication, emphasizing their role as artisans of pencil and watercolor.
