Curatorial context

CUÉNTAME UN CUENTO (Tell Me a Story) is an exhibition focused on illustrated children's literature from the ABC Collection, presented at the ABC Museum in collaboration with the Directorate General of Archives, Museums, and Libraries of the City of Madrid. The exhibition is thoughtfully designed for children and their accompanying adults, offering a space for reading, looking, understanding, learning, imagining, creating, and playing. It features 19 distinct stories, each accompanied by original artwork, texts, and didactic-creative proposals, with the aim of providing a fulfilling creative experience rather than a purely historical-artistic one. The illustrations and texts were originally published throughout the last century in publications like Blanco y Negro magazine, the Gente Menuda children's supplement, and the ABC newspaper. While the stories are summarized, their original essence is maintained. Visitors can access original publications via QR codes. The exhibition layout and content are prepared to be accessible and engaging for younger visitors, encouraging participation and enjoyment for all ages. Additionally, the exhibition serves as a platform to launch the First Illustrated Children's Story Contest, organized by the ABC Museum and the Central District Board, encouraging children under twelve to explore writing and illustration.
