To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the painter Adolfo Lozano Sidro (1872-1935), the Museo ABC, in collaboration with the Adolfo Lozano Sidro Municipal Board, presents an exhibition dedicated to his extensive oeuvre. The exhibition, titled 'EN CÓRDOBA – ADOLFO LOZANO SIDRO 1872-1935 CRONISTA TOTAL DE SU ÉPOCA', runs from June 21 to September 25, 2022. It aims to increase knowledge and appreciation of Lozano Sidro's work, who, despite his close ties to Priego de Córdoba, had limited direct connection with Córdoba city itself. The exhibition delves into his artistic journey, from his early studies in Málaga and Granada to his later life in Madrid and Priego, highlighting his dual mastery as both a painter and an illustrator, a skill that earned him international recognition. The exhibition draws a comprehensive picture of Lozano Sidro's artistic output, including notable successes at national and international exhibitions, such as the Mención de Honor at the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1897 and a Silver Medal at the Panama International Exposition in 1916. It features significant oil paintings like 'El árabe' and 'Otey', as well as his psychologically profound portraits and scenes depicting Andalusian rural life and Madrid's high society. The text emphasizes Zueras's assessment of Lozano Sidro as a "painter and illustrator out of the ordinary, an archetype of Modernist aesthetics" and a "sharp chronicler and incisive critic of patriotic aspects." The exhibition brings together key pieces from the Adolfo Lozano Sidro Museum in Priego and contributions from the artist's heirs and the Museo ABC's collection, which houses over 600 of his illustrations.
