This exhibition explores the dual value of water as a precious, limited resource and as a subject of artistic beauty. It features nearly 40 pieces from the Museo ABC's collection, including works by prominent Spanish illustrators, complemented by photographs from the ABC Archive.
The exhibition 'EN MURCIA – MEMORIA DEL AGUA' aims to provoke reflection on water as an invaluable and limited resource, while also celebrating the beauty found in drawings and photographs where this treasure is the protagonist. Hosted at the Espacio Molinos del Río-Caballerizas del Ayuntamiento de Murcia, the exhibition draws from Museo ABC's collection, showcasing nearly 40 pieces by masters of Spanish illustration such as Díaz Huertas, Goñi, Mingote, and Xaudaró. This is complemented by a selection of photographs from the ABC Archive, creating an engaging dialogue. The show offers an emotional history of water from an aesthetic perspective.
The exhibition highlights the universal right to water, as declared by the United Nations in 2010. Its accessibility and use are crucial for community development, a role water has played since the dawn of life. While water is undeniably a right, it also carries associated duties: optimal, sustainable use due to its limited nature, alongside proper distribution and management. This intelligent and sustainable use is a responsibility shared by individuals, businesses, and states worldwide. The exhibition presents water's emotional history through art, encompassing both the contemplative perspectives of artists—sometimes lyrical, sometimes humorous—and the realistic, documentary, and beautiful narratives of photographers.
