Curatorial context

La Jaula de los Monos' (The Monkey Cage) is a multifaceted exhibition that delves into the extensive ABC Collection, conceived as six individual exhibitions within one. The display traces the evolution of the publication 'Blanco y Negro,' founded in 1891 with the aim of chronicling modern life through high-quality illustrations and photography. The exhibition is structured chronologically, with each of the six sections curated by different specialists who offer their personal and free interpretation of specific periods. Inmaculada Corcho guides through the late 19th century, followed by Víctor Zarza covering the early 20th century up to World War I. Eduardo Alaminos explores the 1920s, Fernando Castillo revisits the 1930s, the civil war, and the early post-war years. Juan Manuel Bonet takes over for the period from the late 1940s to the democratic transition, and Julieta de Haro concludes the journey with a focus on the final decades of the 20th century. This 'exquisite corpse' of an exhibition, while not exhaustive, aims to provide multiple viewpoints for the continuous discovery of this infinite collection. The project is part of a collaboration between Fundación Colección ABC and the Madrid City Council, supported by the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sport. The exhibition is held at Museo ABC.
