Pintacuentos showcases contemporary Mexican illustration for children and youth, presenting a representative survey of current artistic practices in the field. The exhibition aims to highlight the evolution of quality, originality, and professionalism in Mexican children's illustration.
The exhibition 'Pintacuentos' at the ABC Museum of Drawing and Illustration presents a comprehensive look at contemporary Mexican children's and youth illustration. It aims to serve as a representative inventory of the current scene in Mexico, comparing the creative output of illustrators born across five decades of the 20th century, from the 1940s to the 1980s. The exhibition seeks to demonstrate the growth in diversity, quality, originality, and the professional landscape of this field, and how it contributes to forming new generations of readers.
Featuring the work of 49 illustrators, 'Pintacuentos' displays 142 original drawings and a substantial number of books for both children and adults. It highlights the diversity, abundance, quality, and unique proposals of current illustration trends for children in Mexico, fluidly integrating traditional techniques with new digital resources. The exhibition draws from a rich graphic and artistic legacy, including pre-Hispanic art, popular art, engraving, painting, and influential 20th-century illustrators. It also reveals a dynamic dialogue with other artistic languages and supports such as posters, design, graffiti, toys, street art, cinema, animation, and graphic novels.
